Dorn Research Institute (DRI) is an independent non-profit corporation originally established in 1997 to support the research and educational activities at the Columbia VA Health Care System in Columbia, SC.

 

The establishment of such corporations was allowed by Congress to provide a flexible funding mechanism for the receipt and administration of research and educational funds. The sole purpose of non-profit corporations housed in VA facilities is to advance the research mission of the Department of  Veterans Affairs by supporting approved research and educational facilities. DRI is a self-sustaining Internal Revenue Service designated non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation that derives its administrative and operational funding from fees, donations, and investment interest. Its research activities are conducted in accordance with VA regulations, as mandated by its Charter and Mission, and as recommended by its Board of Directors.
